Online Predators-Don't Be Fooled
Online Predators are cowards who use the internet as a tool to hide behind their true intentions. There are always new stories of the perils of allowing your children to go online unsupervised. And, while you want your children to experience the freedom that the internet provides, being prepared for online predators is the best way to avoid problems.
As a parent, you want your arsenal of weapons to include everything that will help. By the same token, you don't want to stand over your child's shoulders as they surf the internet. You can come to a happy medium with some of the tools that are available today. Take, for example, the advances in parental control software.
The software that currently exists allows you to program your child's email address so that they can only obtain emails from certain pre-approved lists. You can also find software that serves as a parental spy providing an account of every online site visited. To go one step further, there is software that records any online exchanges during live chat sessions.
Take the time to visit your local computer store or software retailer. With the emergence of the presence of online predators, there are constantly new choices to be made in the search to keep your children safe.
Use your common sense as a starting point and make sure that you sit down with your children and establish the do's and don'ts of their internet experiences. Also, make them aware of the existence of online predators and how to avoid becoming a victim.
Predators have always existed in one form or another. Online predators just represent the newest form that require intense scrutiny. It is a sad commentary on our society that we must look at everything with a cautionary spin, but, on the other hand, one can never be too cautious when it comes to the safety of our children.
