Teen Safety

Teen safety -- The bridge to being able to trust your teen, and making them responsible individuals. Teen safety is an essential part of growing up.

Teen Safety: Home Alone

When it comes to your teen there is always a constant battle, a battle over anything and everything. Teens are in that awkward stage where they aren't kids, but not yet adults. They need their freedom, but they still need to be supervised. As a parent, you need to find a healthy balance. And the hardest part, knowing when and what you should trust your teen with. The first -- and biggest, yet hardest -- test is leaving your kid home ALONE! Leaving you teen home alone can make or break the trust aspect of the relationship. But it is a good way to practice teen safety, or at least get them started about thinking about teen safety.

Teen Safety: Trusting Your Teen Home Alone

Don't open the door for strangers: It sounds simple -- and it is -- but this is the number one rule when leaving kids -- even teens home alone -- for the first time. This is the number one rule. When you are not home, there is no reason there should be someone coming to the door, unless it's the mailman (and even that isn't a good enough excuse to open the door). Tell them to leave the door close -- the first rule of teen safety.

Another teen safety rule -- do not invite anyone over when parents are out. This can lead to serious trouble. Not just because your child disobeyed your direct order, but because when there are more than one teen in the vicinity, there is almost guaranteed to be some mischief. Although they may be older, accidents happen. And because teens are still curious, they may get into much more serious trouble than a younger child. Be prepared, and teach your kid proper teen safety measurements. Make them into safety conscious adults.
