Survival Gear
When it comes to sailing, it's better safe than sorry. The more you're prepared, the safer your time will be. There are a few things we all know we need to have (life vests, first-aid kit, food, etc.). But what happens when you're unexpectedly stuck out to sea for longer than you expected, then what do you do? What do you need to survive? There are a few more things you need to keep yourself afloat, in more ways than one. Don't get caught out to sea empty-handed. Always be prepared and ready for emergencies. Here's what you need to do so.
Sailing Survival Gear
What do you need as part of your sailing survival gear?
First of all, the most important piece of survival gear is you life vest. Never go near any body of water without a life vest, no matter how good a swimmer you are. You never know what can happen, and even the strongest swimmer at some time or another needs help.
Second of all, if possible, tie a lifeboat to the back of your sailboat; or if it can fit on the actual boat, even better. Hopefully you won't have to use it, but it's better to be safe than sorry. If you have a motor boat, that would be the perfect scenario. Then of course, you always want to have extra food with you. You may not think of food as survival gear, but in a distressing situation, it can be.
For those who go out further than others, it may be a good idea to get a radio to call land or the Coast Guard, should you find yourself in a worst case scenario.
You can never be too careful when it comes to survival gear and your safety. Be safe not sorry. Always have your survival gear ready to go.
