	<description>

Know where you go
Before you embark on your next journey to god knows where, make sure that you and your travel companions have given some thought to travel safety. There are many things that you can do to make sure that your plans go smoothly. A lot of time, energy, and cash go into planning a vacation, the last things you want to do is compromise all that by ignoring basic travel safety. The first thing we should always do is a little research. Know where it is that you are going as well as a little bit of the local customs and laws - remember that you are subject to their laws when you are in their country.

Luggage control
It is fairly common to have some kind of luggage mishap while traveling and some of that has nothing to do with travel safety as many of us have found out for ourselves. Airlines and the like will occasionally lose luggage no matter what kinds of precautions we take. We can try to control some of the other things that can happen to our luggage though. Get yourself a good lock for each of the bags that you will be taking along. Have a locksmith make them up for you as many of them that you buy for the purpose have the same key or are very easy to pry open. In addition to that, save yourself and everyone else traveling that day by making sure that you know what items are prohibited, both in the cabin and in the luggage. You waste everyone's time when trying to bring things that are not allowed. And don't joke with security - they are not supposed to have a sense of humor.

When you arrive at your destination it is a whole different travel safety scenario. You do not have to be tense, or look tense, when you are still being somewhat weary of your new surroundings. Keep your eyes open and protect your belongings, crowded places are the best chance for thieves to work their magic. Don't leave your things anywhere, keep them on your person and any bags or backpacks souls be swung around to the front so that thieves do not have easy access into them.

Hopefully you have also taken the time to learn at least a few words in the local language. Just a few basic words and phrases can really endear you to the locals and help to get you out of sticky situations. Jot down a few travel safety phrases and translate them for good measure!
